Osimert 80mg is a cancer treatment drug that is commonly prescribed in the treatment of lung cancer.
Active ingredient name: Osimertinib mesylate 80mg
Brand name: Osimert 80mg
Dosage form: 1 bottle x 30 tablets.
What is Osimert?
Osimert 80mg is a third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) developed by AstraZeneca. It is a targeted cancer treatment that works by blocking the activity of an abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop or slow the spread of cancer cells and helps shrink tumors.
Indications of Osimert 80mg are approved by the FDA and approved for use in the following cases:
Adjuvant therapy after surgical resection in adult patients with NSCLC and tumors with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) exon 19 deletion or exon 21 L858R mutation (as detected by an FDA-approved test)
First-line treatment of adult patients with locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC with epidermal growth factor receptor EGFR exon 19 deletion or exon 21 L858R mutation (as detected by an FDA-approved test).
Treatment of adult patients with locally advanced or metastatic EGFR T790M mutation-positive NSCLC, as detected by an FDA-approved test, and whose disease has progressed during or following first-line treatment with an EGFR-TKI.
Osimert 80mg is usually given after other treatments have failed.
Approximately 10% of patients with NSCLC have a rapid and effective clinical response to EGFR-TKI.
The development of third-generation EGFR-TKIs such as Osimert is in response to the changing tumor resistance mechanisms after treatment and to reduce toxic side effects that affect patients' quality of life.
